NEW MEX-TEX RESTAURANT
An authentic* Mexican restaurant and bar opened near N. Atherton Walmart. Named "Don Patron Mexican Grill", this restaurant is modeled after a quick service Mexican restaurant.
I had a Pollo A La Parilla, which was a boneless chicken breast grilled and covered with a salsa based sauce and served with beans, rice guacamole and tortillas.
My friend had a basic chicken enchilada (actually I was nt paying much attention as I was super hungry).
Service was prompt and good. Their chips and salsa was good and refills were offered without prompting. Overall, we had a good experience and will definitely go back again.
It has a fairly nice sit down atmosphere, but with a slight festive note. By that we mean, the music is audible, and I managed to sneak a dance with my friend to some latin tunes. It was her birthday, so she obliged although that meant being the center of attention for a few minutes. While I am not able to locate the actual website of the State College location of Don Patron, the menu at Belle Vernon PA is listed here (pdf new window). The local menu is quite similar (prices may vary though)
Check them out on Foursquare.
* : The authenticity is vouched for by one of my close friends, who was born in Mexico and visits Mexico routinely.

New Restaurants in State College
El Jalisco - Mexican
Another good Mexican restaurant, run by the same management as Rey's Azteca (which is near the mall). This one is located on North Atherton, so it gives options for people in that region of town.
Kamrai - Thai-Japanese
Located in Lemont, with some really nice options on the menu
